Birthday Success!

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Our Birthday market held on November 3rd was an absolute success! Distinctly more busy than usual it was a vibrant and enjoyable evening.

Great thanks go to Candida Lycett Green (and her daughter and grand-daughter) for attending and signing copies of her books, to the Stallholders and to our customers for sticking with us and making our first year such a resounding success!

For those interested, a number of photos of the day can be seen in the gallery.

Shrivenham Birthday Cake

It’s our 1st Birthday!

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

That’s right, it’s hard to believe but we are one year old and to celebrate this milestone we are having a very special market this Friday 3rd November.

John Betjeman’s daughter, Candida Lycett Green, will be signing copies of her books and for those who haven’t yet had the pleasure, a few of them include…

  • “Over the Hills and Far Away”
  • “The Dangerous Edge of Things”
  • “Best Loved Poems”
  • “Collected Poems”
  • “Trains & Buttered Toast”
  • “Betjeman’s Letters”

We were expecting Bill Heine to join us from BBC Radio Oxford with an outside broadcast of his programme. Sadly Bill has gone down with a nasty bug and has asked me to apologise to all of you for having to cancel his visit and sends his wishes for a successful celebration. Bill is a great supporter of farmers’ markets and I am sure you will join me in wishing him in turn a speedy recovery. We hope to be able to invite him to join us in the New Year.

We will be cutting the birthday cake at 4.00 pm so do come and join us!

Our new website is LIVE!

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

This has to be possibly the quickest turnaround for a new website since the internet was created (around 4 days). We thought it might be nice to have something new and a little more fresh in celebration of the markets 1st birthday coming up this Friday, and with a little help from the Word Press blogging platform and a little backward engineering I think we’ve come out with something quite good :-)

So what do you think? We would love to hear any comments that you may have (so long as they’re nice ;-) ) so do feel free to use the comment link at the bottom of this post to leave a quick note, or if you have a private message then you can send it to us from the contacts page in the sidebar to your left.

And lastly, if you run a local business in and around the Shrivenham area and would like to get in on a little of the internet bandwagon then we are always looking for ways to spread the market message and would be happy to display a mutual link to your website.

I hope you all enjoy the new website, and look forward to seeing you at one (and hopefully more) of our future markets. Please see the links on your left for market days and our location.

Best wishes,
Shrivenham Farmers Market
